About the role

Primary purpose:

Supervise, coordinate and manage multiple construction, repair and maintenance projects. Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, federal, state and local requirements.

Perform activities necessary to manage the development and execution of a broad range of natural gas and hydrocarbon liquid facility projects including high-pressure gas and liquid transmission pipeline, metering, compression, pumps, storage, gathering, treating, and processing.

Work as project team leader to organize and direct efforts of the project team toward meeting team goals.  Provide leadership including project planning, scheduling, prioritization of tasks, cost control, coordination with pipeline operations and field forces, and monitoring project progress.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Serve as on-site representative related to operational, commercial, expansion, and development projects.
  • Provide preliminary work scopes, estimates and budgeting details of assigned projects/work items.
  • Coordinate the bidding process to ensure competitive and effective costing.
  • Provide project management to ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget.
  • Advise Management of progress toward project objectives and develop strategies for necessary adjustments.  Recognize and promote ideas that provide safer, more efficient and cost effective operation.
  • Effectively interface with customer representatives, regulators, Tallgrass staff and others as required.
  • Create bid packages and scopes for contractors and vendors.
  • Interact with contractors throughout the bid and selection process.
  • Interact with contractors throughout all phases of project construction and commissioning.
  • Hands-on field management with full responsibility of capital and maintenance projects.
  • Interact with maintenance and operations during concept, design, construction and completion of capital projects for smooth turnover to both departments.
  • Meet deadlines set by sales and operations.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with Federal, State, and Local Regulations.
  • Follow all Tallgrass Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform all job duties focusing in on Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project team that may be comprised of internal and external service providers including but not limited to Project Engineers, Planning Engineers, Operation Engineers and Environmental Engineers to ensure project success.
  • Create and direct the controls for assigned projects.
  • Provide or direct the appropriate level of project documentation during the project and following project completion to assure compliance with the policies of Corporate, Federal, State and other governing bodies.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations that communicate project proposals, descriptions and status to upper management, governmental agencies and/or the public.
  • Provide accurate monthly project cash flow forecasts and accruals.
  • Manage projects in a manner that assures safety, reliability, environmental and human impacts are mitigated while meeting the project goals (including but not limited to:  Schedule, Budget, Safety and Overall Quality).
  • Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes.
  • Travel is required and anticipated as 5-10% across a broad geographic region.
  • Effectively plan, schedule, and manage multiple capital and operational projects concurrently to meet customer’s needs and expectations.
  • Organize projects in the Company’s financial control system, review and manage expenditures and commitments, and prepare monthly cost control reports.
  • Assist Business Development and Operations by preparing project scopes, cost estimates, and execution plans for new and expansion projects.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering is required.
  • Course of study in the discipline of Mechanical, Civil or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
