Job Description:

The Office of Revisor of Statutes of the Nebraska Legislature is currently seeking applicants for the position of Deputy Statute Technician. Under the supervision of the Supervising Statute Technician and the Revisor of Statutes, the Deputy Statute Technician supervises staff, prepares legislative bills and amendments, resolutions, and materials for codification, and proofreads materials for publication of statutes and preparation of legislative documents. Minimum hiring rate of position: $55,744 annually

Job Duties:

  • Assists the Supervising Statute Technician with monitoring and coordinating workflow through the office's bill drafting system.
  • Assists the Supervising Statute Technician with supervising, training, and assigning work to the statute technicians.
  • Assists in preparing and proofreading the supplements to the statutes and the reissued volumes of the statutes for publication.
  • Prepares and proofreads legislative bills, amendments, and resolutions.
  • Responds to requests and inquiries.
  • Performs responsibilities of the Supervising Statute Technician as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


 

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College degree or five years of experience as a statute technician or in a similar position.
  • Experience with data processing systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the structure and operation of state government, the Legislature, and the legislative process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a focus on grammar, spelling, and proofreading.
  • Ability to work independently and organize and manage work.
  • Ability to function well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including working nights and weekends.
