Job Description


Job Title: Press Operator Date: 07/01/2025

Reports To: Manufacturing Supervisor


Summary

Research Tool & Die Works is seeking a motivated candidate to fill a press operator position. The ideal candidate will be able to operate or tend machines to cut, shear, punch, or bend metal material in a safe and efficient manner. This position will also be required to operate a saw machine safely and in an efficient manner. Attention to detail will be required as the individual needs to trim materials to specified lengths utilizing a job card.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities
• Read work orders and production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Load workpieces into machines.
• Operate, machines to cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten material.
• Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
• Review the part every 15 minutes using the FAI sample as a guide
• Measure completed workpieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
• Examine completed workpieces for defects such as chipped edges and marred surfaces, and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
• Safely Set up the saw machine, making adjustments for each job
• Follows job card instructions
• Locates and safely loads material on a saw machine
• Set stops or guides to specified lengths, trims material ends to start saw lengths
• Programs or selects established programs for a desired part number.
• Operates the saw machine, keeping an eye out for any defects or issues
• Use measurement tools such as calipers, measuring tapes, and magnets to ensure accuracy
• Help pack and transport finished pieces
• Accurately complete paperwork, job cards, and material status sheet
• Daily records labor and part count online.
• Examine completed workpieces for defects such as chipped edges and marred surfaces, and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
• Clean the workstation at the completion of the shift
• Adheres to all safety policies and procedures
• Other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and Educational Requirements
• High School Diploma (Preferred) or GED
• Technical or apprentice certificate preferred
• Able to independently perform a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors
• Strong attention to detail
• Good habits of keeping workstations clean along with being punctual and honest
• Detail-oriented and proactive to ensure quality control
• Requires the ability to read and understand work orders or instructions and count
• Based on Experience and Qualifications, the candidate will be placed on a Scale from A-D
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to work in noisy environments
• Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
• Requires repetitive movement, occasional bending or twisting.
• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
• Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions.
• Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
