About the Role:
To enable Guardant Health to fight cancer through data, the Security Team is seeking a highly motivated Summer Intern – Security Engineer to join our team to improve and enhance detection capabilities at Guardant Health. This position involves hands-on security operations and engineering work and is well suited for a student looking for a career in information security defense (blue team). You will work with the Security Engineering & Operations Team to explore and implement open-source tools that help fulfill the mission of the Security Operations team by expanding its capabilities and automation. The overall framework for the internship is learn-perform-analyze-document as applied to several industry-recognized open-source security automation tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Gather input and requirements from the security team
- Utilize open-source tools to automate security blue and purple team tasks
- Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain systems running security tools
Qualifications
- Completed Coursework in Computer Science
- Experience with programming languages (python preferred)
- Experience with cloud infrastructure ( AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with Linux and comfortable in the terminal
- Exposure to open-source security tools such as Metasploit
- Ability to compile basic open-source toolsets
- Knowledge of docker is a plus.
- Self-motivated with the ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Education:
Students close to or recently completing BS, MS in CS/EE, or a related field with some programming experience.

Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the hourly range for this full-time position is Undergraduate $27/hr., Graduate $32/hr., and Doctorate $40/hr. The range does not include benefits and, if applicable, overtime, bonus, commission, or equity.
