Overview
Utah State University Facilities is seeking to fill the role for a Major Projects Shop Representative (Engineering Technician SR). The primary responsibility of this position is to represent the interests of the maintenance shops on major construction projects managed by the Planning and Design department. This role is involved in projects from Design Development through Construction and the 1st year of operation. You will assist with design and construction reviews, help coordinate efforts to assure compliance with building codes, university standards, project plans and specifications in the modification of existing and new construction of university facilities.
Involves and coordinates maintenance shops in design reviews and site-walks for major construction activities on campus projects from completion of bidding and award of construction contracts to final acceptance. Inspects and reviews all construction and remodeling projects for maintainability during all phases of planning and construction to ensure that projects conform to the needs and requirements of the university. Supports project management through the 1-year warranty period by investigating and identifying any project related issues, while also helping to determine how it should be resolved.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail oriented, process driven and be able to communicate effectively inter-personally, through documentation and by email. Documentation and file management is key to managing time and workloads across multiple projects that are simultaneously in progress. Understanding of the interactions of multiple construction disciplines is essential, or have a proven record of curiosity, learning and understanding areas you are unfamiliar with. Must be able to work independently.

Responsibilities
- Observes construction progress ensuring procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications; observes work in progress to assure acceptable workmanship.
- Reviews contract plans and specifications for compliance with appropriate building codes, university standards, and project requirements.
- Checks and monitors all construction completion schedules to ensure that maintenance personnel are kept appraised of progress and provided the opportunities to review documents and walk the construction site.
- Visits all construction and remodeling projects on campus regularly to ensure conformity to plans and specifications.
- Assists and coordinates shop personnel in the review of plans and specifications for construction of new building projects and for remodeling projects of present structures.
- Compiles, prepares and submits various reports to PD&C project manager of inspections made at construction and remodeling sites.
- Assists the collection of information by contacting various participants involved in the future use of the building to ensure the pertinence of as-built drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Interacts with contractors, construction inspectors and other university personnel to attempt to satisfy all parties.

- Schedules project work with various USU Facilities shops that are furnishing material and/or labor for portions of work in specific projects.
- Reviews logs of contractor submittals, requests for information and changes of proposals to ensure university standards are maintained, and any changes are appropriate and pertinent to the project.
- Acts as liaison between contractors, project manager, and design consultants through all phases of design and construction to help resolve field problems to maintain project schedule and budget.
- Interprets blueprints and specifications for contractors to ensure compliance with construction plans and specifications and obtain additional information from the project architect when necessary; recommends changes to documents for ease of construction.
- Reviews construction documents and specifications for compliance with USU’s A&E manual and the DFCM High.
- Performance Building standards.
- Assists with final inspections and the creation of punch lists; monitors completion of punch list.
- Act as Facilities customer liaison during building warranty period, and coordinates any claims with PD&C project manager.
