Product Analyst Intern

Program Overview:
The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student’s area of focus.
Over the course of the program, interns will gain exposure to senior leaders, attend meetings, work alongside mentors, and receive valuable performance feedback.
Position Summary:
This position will report to the Business Analytics Team. Responsibilities include analyzing loan application and performance data for critical insights, patterns, and trends, as well as communicating analysis and proposing solutions to the organization. This position will also need to understand the process and metrics of loan acquisition and performance and be able to extract the key features into reports and analysis.
This role requires knowledge of data structure, data analytics, statistical modeling techniques, and coding languages such as SQL, SAS and Python.
Responsibilities:
- Support projects and ad-hoc requests across Marketing, customer insights, product, and pricing analytics. Responsibilities include extracting data through our enterprise data warehouse and preparing findings for management review
- Develop and/or enhance reporting capabilities
- Offer alternative perspectives and critical insights on the business and how we can potentially improve various processes
- Present analysis results and recommendations to organizational leadership
Education:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
- Open to Seniors or Graduate students in Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Data Science, or related degree programs
- Maintains a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Experience:
- Available to work up to 40 hours per week between 6/22 and 8/22 – Summer
- Work schedule is Hybrid, requiring three days of onsite workdays per week
Skills/Traits:
- Working knowledge of SQL and/or SAS (should be able to independently write code that will run successfully from at least a syntax perspective and be familiar with standard functions, case whens, and similar logic)
- Working knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, cell references)
- Strong comprehension of numbers/metrics and the underlying math or logic
- Someone who seeks to find meaning and understanding beyond the surface
