The Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is the largest department in the Cockrell School of Engineering with more than 2,500 students and 80 faculty. Professor Dr. David Z. Pan is an ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, SPIE Fellow and holder of the Silicon Labs Endowed Chair. His research interests include electronic design automation, efficient machine learning, hardware acceleration, prototyping for analog/digital/mixed-signal designs and emerging technologies. He has published over 500 refereed journal and conference papers and is the holder of 8 U.S. Patents. He has trained over 50 PhD students and postdocs at UT Austin, who are now holding key academic and industry positions.
Position may be eligible for extension beyond September 30, 2027, based on satisfactory performance, the existence of funding and programmatic need.
Purpose
Provide project management and administrative support to Professor Dr. David Z. Pan in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department across a broad spectrum of research initiative functions, including purchasing, travel, pre- and post-award administration and other financial operations. Serve as liaison between the faculty member, HR Coordinator, Research Administrative Manager, Procurement Officer, sponsoring agencies and external collaborators.
Responsibilities
Develop project plans, business processes, timelines and track key milestones connecting regularly with Professor Dr. David Z. Pan and stakeholders to fully support research projective objectives. Communicate with project sponsors / collaborators for multi-entity research initiatives. Provide detailed project progress reports, deliverables and risk management support to research partners.
Provide financial planning and reporting for Professor Dr. David Z. Pan, the Natcast Project, researchers under faculty member and additional project stakeholders. Support includes accounts payable (contractors, entertainment, travel, etc.), procurement support, reconciliation and general account maintenance. Oversee pre- and post-award administration for complex, multi-entity and multi-year research projects. Prepare detailed financial reports and analysis monthly for all projects, proposals, contracts, gifts, endowments, grants and additional funding sources.
Liaison between Professor Dr. David Z. Pan and the ECE Department for managing and submitting data to ECE HR Coordinator for all students, Visiting Scholars, Postdoctoral Fellows and Researchers, which includes data collection for employment, onboarding, processing tuition reduction benefits (TRB) and managing timesheets.
Manage work authorizations for research staff, official university visitors and project partners. Collaborate with HR Coordinator and Texas Global for federal submissions to the USCIS for individual cases and process related fee payments.
Maintain records about all students, Visiting Scholars, Postdoctoral Fellows, Researchers and project collaborators working with supported faculty member.
Attend training opportunities to stay current with changing university, federal, state, departmental, sponsoring agencies and external project collaborators mandated policies. Implement policies and recommend procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
Other duties as assigned as Research Administrator to support the overall research initiatives and goals of Professor Dr. David Z. Pan.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five years of management experience within a large organization
Experience providing comprehensive administrative support and utilizing accepted project management methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, meet competing deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
