About the role
Basic Job Function:
Assist the Lead Naturalist in various nature driven activities including but not limited to beach/marsh/maritime forest nature walks, guided bike rides and golf cart tours, which include extensive presentations on a variety of local species and habitats. Foster a culture of environmental stewardship through leading immersive nature programming for Sea Island’s guests and members of all ages. Assist in nature driven children’s activities within activities and nature departments. Maintain computer databases and help manage guest participation in nature programming. Monitor and protect sea turtle nests along Sea Island’s beach during the nesting and hatching season. Field work includes but is not limited to seasonally conducting daily beach surveys to assess sea turtle nesting, documenting nesting sites, monitoring nests for depredation, relocating nests threatened with tidal inundation, and evaluating hatching success after emergence. Work both independently and alongside lead naturalist in guiding guests and residents on daily sea turtle dawn patrols and educational night walks. Monitor Sea Island’s shorebird populations and assist in nesting season conservation efforts. Report sea turtle nesting data, and marine stranding's to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) sea turtle database and stranding and salvage network. Manage the “Sea Turtle Adopt a Nest” program. Efficiently and effectively meet guest’s requests and distribute all package materials. Perform daily maintenance of all in-house wildlife display enclosures, maintain animal husbandry protocols and recordings. Uphold ongoing outstanding guest and member relations. Exemplify strong abilities to conduct both scientific field work and environmental education. Promote the Sea Island legacy of warm and genuine hospitality while upholding and ensuring compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures. Use of Company Vehicle: Designated to drive a company vehicle Minimum Requirements:
• Minimum B.S. degree in biology or related sciences
• Previous work experience in biology/ecology or a related field.
• Extensive Knowledge of the Georgia coastline and it’s native flora and fauna
• Ability to perform duties required by Sea Island and GA DNR
��� Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Must have the ability to courteously present information to people in one-on-one group settings
• CPR and first Aid Certification within 30 days of hire
• Valid Georgia Driver’s License
• Company policy requires that one must be 21 years of age or older to drive a company vehicle
• Proficient in Windows XP and Microsoft Office software applications such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Proven networking ability and demonstrated partnership work with other agencies
• Possess a creative sense, sound judgment, initiative, cooperation, discretion, and professional presence
• Ability to nurture and grow in a collaborative work environment

• Naturalist programs offered to guests and members on Sea Island
o Conduct daily naturalist programs educating guests on Sea Island’s beach, marsh ecology, and maritime forest flora and fauna
o Activities include, but are not limited to the following:
guided beach/marsh walks, coastal wildlife bike rides, golf cart birding tours, boat tours, educational sea turtle programming, and various interactive wildlife encounters offered on a weekly basis as scheduled
• Children’s nature programs
o Educate children in several nature driven activities, including Sea Island’s “Junior Naturalist” program and nature presentations for children in “Camp Cloister”
o Educational activities include, but not limited, to the following:
Dissections
Touch Tank Interactions
Shells and Bones Identification Classes
Resident Feedings
Microscope Cl
