What you can expect as a Senior Systems Engineer at West Star:
Under general supervision of the Director of IT, this position maintains the information technology environment for the entire organization across multiple sites. The Senior Systems Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house and cloud information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by designing, implementing, monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Senior Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
Position functions as Level III support. This individual will also mentor and provide guidance to the Systems Engineering staff with the potential to supervise these staff.
You will be ESSENTIAL to many FUNCTIONS including:
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products
- Conduct research into systems issues as required
- Travel to WSA sites when necessary.
- Follow build standards & procedures when setting up environments
- Responsible for laying out quality server build architecture and being able to understand/troubleshoot failures
- Responsible for assisting in the monitoring and upkeep of data center architecture (servers, storage infrastructure and network)
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, cloud services and contractors to secure system-related products and services
- Create system documentation and diagrams
- Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems
- Install, configure and maintain new and/or upgraded server operating systems, server applications, network and client protocols and software, remote access and multiple Remote Desktop Services collections.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned
- Must be willing to work extended hours or called back in emergency situations.
- Must be willing to be on-call (for emergencies only).
- Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
- Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management
What you’ll need to bring with you:
Your Education:
A High school diploma or equivalent.
A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.
Your Experience:
Experience in and understanding of storage administration
Able to manage virtual environments effectively
Experience on systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices
High availability and fault tolerance concepts
Prior experience in project management is preferred
HPE ProLiant servers
VMware vSphere ESXi and vCenter - including iSCSI/VMFS datastores
Microsoft Server Operating Systems up to and including Windows Ser
