Associate Vice President for Clinical Research Administration

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Research, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) provides enterprise-level leadership for the strategy, infrastructure, and business operations that enable safe, compliant, and efficient human-subject research within the new Multispecialty & Research Hospital. The role is expressly administrative and non-clinical, partnering with investigators, hospital operations, and regulatory bodies to deliver high-impact clinical research that advances UT Health San Antonio's academic mission.

  • Translate institutional research priorities into multiyear operational plans and key performance indicators (KPIs). 
  • Chair the Hospital Clinical Research Operations Council; represent UT Health SA in UT System and national consortia. 
  • Study support and coordinate direct contracting and budget process for all services and staff. 
  • Serve as the Multispecialty and Research Hospital EPIC research lead. 
  • Maintain audit readiness; lead corrective action plans. 
  • Ensure consistent adherence to ICH?GCP, OHRP, and UT System policies across all therapeutic areas. 
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, ethical guidelines, and policies related to research. 
  • Develop real-time dashboards on cycle time, enrollment velocity, financial performance, and workforce productivity; drive Lean/Six Sigma projects to meet or exceed KPIs. 
  • Implement cost-recovery models and margin-improvement strategies. 
  • Develop and maintain MSRH fees and facility charges for industry sponsors. 
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain directors and managers in regulatory, budget, data, and quality teams. 
  • Sponsor professional development pathways and champion a culture of high reliability. 
  • Align hospital service lines, investigators, and external partners to maximize study feasibility and patient access. 
  • Facilitate expansion of multi-site studies across UT Health SA regional affiliates. 
  • Develop, expand, and steward hospital-based research and sponsored program growth including federal, foundation, and industry-funded grants and contracts.
