The College of Education is searching for a highly qualified and experienced special and inclusive education professional to engage in collaborative research with faculty, initiate research projects for external funding, and teach courses in the Master of Arts in Special Education and Inclusive Practices and Graduate Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) Endorsement programs. The successful candidate will have a research and teaching philosophy guided by a commitment to diversity, social justice, cultural responsiveness, sociocultural theory and constructivism. Expertise in areas such as curriculum development, educational assessment, collaborative and inclusive practices, action research, universal design for learning are highly preferred. The successful candidate will have experience supporting students (birth-12) with neurodevelopmental and learning differences and their families with a focus on strengths. Program coordination responsibilities (e.g., staffing, admissions, orientation/program meetings, and coordinating/advising students in the MA program and Graduate TOSD Endorsement) will be required for the selected applicant immediately or within a year of the initial start date.

The Department of Wellness and Inclusive Services in Education operates within the College of Education and offers programs including the following: Master of Arts in Special Education and Inclusive Practices; Learning Disability Teacher Consultant (LDTC) Certification; multiple Certificates of Graduate Study (COGS); Bachelor of Arts in Inclusive Education;  Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) Endorsement (post-bac and graduate programs); Counseling in Educational Settings; Master of Arts in School Psychology; Educational Specialist in School Psychology; and School Nursing.

This post is for a full-time, tenure-track Associate/Full Professor position.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in special education from an accredited institution of higher education at the time of appointment.

  • Holds a teaching certificate in special education and has a minimum of 3 years of public-school teaching in inclusive P-12 settings or a private school for students with disabilities.

  • Demonstrated competence in research, teaching online, and service in special education, including a strong research record in special education addressing current timely issues and trends in our field.

  • Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate, evidence-based practices in diverse educational settings; experience with student-centered and inclusive pedagogy and practices for supporting students with a range of disability labels.

  • Strong understanding of various education systems such as public and private education centers, Part C Early Intervention as well as public preschool and P-12 education programs and familiarity with the accreditation standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).

  • Demonstrated ability in communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, including commitment to inclusion, social justice and equity in special education, and culturally responsive and universally designed instruction, as well as collaboration, collegiality, and respect for all people

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with multiple stakeholders, P-12 schools, and underrepresented groups of children.
