Job Description:

Building-Level Behavior Technician is a specialized role that focuses on applying trauma-informed, evidence-based behavioral techniques to support a positive and supportive learning environment in the general education setting. The Behavior Technician works under the guidance of building administrators and certified staff to help support the implementation of effective behavioral strategies for students. This role is critical in supporting district-level interventions like "Home Base" to ensure a successful educational experience for all students.

Serves as a key collaborator with the Response to Intervention (RtI) team and mental health providers. Responsible for ensuring the fidelity of behavior plans, providing staff modeling of supportive student strategies, instruction of behavioral skills to small groups or individual students, and managing specific regulation spaces within the school. While this role provides expert input and technical support, the work is performed in close partnership with licensed staff to maintain professional boundaries and ensure student safety.
Develops and promotes good community relations among various district and community clientele.

EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES USED:

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

ONGOING TRAINING AND COMPLIANCE:
● Maintain all required certifications, including the 40-hour district-approved Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training.
● Complete all mandatory district training, such as CPI, Restorative Practices, and Trauma-Responsive Schools.
● Best practice involves consistently seeking additional training to enhance and maintain relevant skills.

    

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

    

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the building administrator and certified staff, collaborate to effectively manage student behavior by maintaining student behavior plans, supporting skill practice for students, and assisting in the de-escalation of students under the direct supervision of a certified staff person, thereby helping to maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.

Data and Resource Development

  • Data Collection: Gather frequency data, ABC (antecedent-behavior-consequence) data, and preference assessments to guide team decisions, ensuring parent/guardian consent is obtained first.

  • Material Creation: Develop support resources such as visual schedules, work systems, and reward charts.

Collaboration and Training

  • Staff Modeling: Provide clear modeling to school staff on the consistent implementation of behavior plans.

  • Communication: Assist in communicating student needs and intervention components to all pertinent staff members.

  • Professionalism: Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries with students, families, and staff.  Seek the required and recommended training to ensure high-quality support for students.

Intervention and Support

  • Universal Strategies: Collaborate with staff to create and implement differentiated behavior supports in general education classrooms for individuals or groups of students.

  • RtI Plan Execution: Assist in the creation and execution of student-specific behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

  • Crisis Response: Implement effective de-escalation strategies and maintain current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.

  • Regulation Space Management: Manage the school's "Home Base" (regulation room) by organizing materials, maintaining data, and guiding students through self-regulation activities.
