About the role

Reporting to Special Assistant, we are seeking a Sr. Financial Analyst who will ensure the School of Educations Academic Programs are adhering to JHU and SOE controls, policies and procedures and also provides direction and resolution regarding difficult and complex issues. The Sr. Financial Analyst will support three Academic Departments with the School of Education, including three Department Chairs, Faculty Leads of each program and the academic staff which support these areas. The Analyst develops, interprets and reviews financial data to evaluate and determine financial performance and financial projections to assist School leadership in making overall business decisions. This position will have a heavy emphasis on accuracy, financial analysis and problem-solving.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Financial Management & Analysis

  • Assists in the management of multiple financial budgets.
  • Prepares and monitors projections (enrollments, personnel and non-personnel expenses), and reconciling of academic program budgets. Working closely with faculty Leads, develops financial reports for forecasting, supports administrative and financial needs of Academic programs.
  • Serves as a go-to resource for Academic programs and supports business office functions.
  • Maintains financial reporting of operations to summarize the School’s Academic financial performance.
  • Maintains a broad understanding of the conditions of various academic cost centers under each department.
  • Participates in the development of the annual and five-year plans for each academic program.
  • Manages the quarterly academic meetings with departments.
  • Management of Academic Memorandum’s of Understanding (MOU’s) and partnerships of Academic Programs.
  • Produces various reports utilizing institutional data to create monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Reviews and approves monthly accounts reconciliations and/or business plan activity, corrects errors, and informs the Associate Director of Finance of any problems or discrepancies.
  • Oversees and approves online payments, travel reimbursements (initiated through Concur), shopping cart and other related financial transactions.
  • Approval of Academic program Procurement Cards
  • Develops efficiencies to improve and maintain the services of the School and to ensure positive financial performance.
  • Provides departmental information as requested by the School or external entities as requested and appropriate
  • Assists with compliance matters.
  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts and draws conclusions with direction.
  • Must be able to interpret technical and detailed guideline, policies and procedures as well as explain complex information.


Human Resources Administration

  • Review of faculty and staff effort, manages salary distribution sheets, E-forms, and faculty load sheets for Academic budgets. and adhering to compliance of effort reporting
  • Assists with monitoring academic programs salaries, headcount, and other key HR data



Special knowledge, skills, & abilities

  • Significant experience in spreadsheet development and analysis.
  • Background knowledge of expenditure accounting and reporting systems, Pcard, etc.
  • Knowledge of human resource administration.


Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Working knowledge of SAP or other enterprise systems.
  • Working knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) for reports related to enrollments, faculty teaching assignments, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (specifically Word, Excel and Power Point) required.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
  • Five years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience.
  • Additional education (master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
