*Tenure-Track: Assistant Professor Early Medieval Literatures, Race, and Culture

Description
The English Department at Fordham University seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Early Medieval Literatures, Race, and Culture to be based at Fordham’s Rose Hill campus in the Bronx and to begin in Fall 2026. Applicants should be specialists in the literatures of early medieval England (500-1100 C.E.) whose teaching and research situate the study of medieval literature within a global frame. Teacher-scholars who place early medieval English literature in the contexts of the Global North, Global South, Mediterranean, Africa, or Turtle Island are especially welcome to apply. Potential theoretical orientations could include, but are not limited to, disability studies, ecocriticism, empire, gender, Indigenous studies, and race and racism.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will teach introductory literature courses in the University’s core curriculum, as well as specialized courses and seminars for the Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Old English language and literature and the History of the English Language in the Department. Teaching ability in additional early languages is also welcomed, and teaching load is 2:3. English at Fordham plays a fundamental part in the University's intellectual life, with an undergraduate major in literature; a major with a concentration in creative writing; minors in literature, creative writing, and public and professional writing; an M.A.; and a Ph.D. We have a Race and Social Justice requirement for the undergraduate major and a Difference and Intersectionality requirement for the M.A. and Ph.D. programs. Successful candidates may also have the opportunity to teach in a variety of interdisciplinary programs, including Fordham’s programs in Medieval Studies and Comparative Literature.
