ChristianaCare is currently seeking Full and Part time Sr. CNA'S at our Union Hosptial Campus located in Elkton, Maryland across multiple units.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (Sr. CNA) supports activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) with an expectation to support the organizations patient safety goals and initiatives. In addition to direct patient care, the CNA / PCT II position requires the execution of clerical duties to help support the nursing staff and patients.

Education and experience requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent AND one or more of the below qualifications:
  • Previous patient care experience including taking vital signs.
  • Nursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
  • Licensed CNA's will be required to perform provision of nursing assistant care within scope of practice including IV insertions.
  • Acceptance into a Christiana Care approved Patient Care Technician training program.
  • 2 years clerical or related experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Performs assigned nursing duties for the comfort and well-being of patients.

Performs and accurately records vital signs, Accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobilizing patients.

Performs successful finger sticks on patients, defined procedures on point of care instrumentation and EKGs.

Following established policies and procedures, additional duties may include phlebotomy venipuncture.

Responds with promptness, compassion, and interest to needs of patients.

Demonstrates proficiency using required computer skills to document in the electronic medical record.

Performs Unit Clerk duties such as, answering phones, entering charges, calling provider consults, setting up patient transportation, assisting staff with clerical needs and audits and coordinates maintenance of unit supplies.

Responds to patient crisis and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.

Daily contact with patients, family members, visitors, employees, medical staff, volunteers, and students.

Nurse Manager. Assistant Nurse Manager. Receives direction from RN.

Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:

Knowledge of basic nursing care provided for specific patient population of unit.

Knowledge of department standards, selected procedures, nursing practice guidelines and procedures.

Ability to acquire information to identify patient needs and to deliver care as needed.

Ability to work quickly and thoroughly.

Ability to recognize changes in patient status, take appropriate action and advise RN

Ability to perform basic math skills.

Ability to use appropriate safety measures for patients, employees and self.

Ability to follow universal precautions at all times.

Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy.
