Communications Representative - PBX - PRN

Overview

As a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) Operator, you are often the first point of contact the public has with the hospital. Whether calling to ask about a patient, to inquire about a bill, or to find out if they should come to the emergency room, the operator is the first person with whom a caller interacts, and that interaction can set the tone for their whole experience.

Responsibilities

• You will also be the person trusted to connect calls between departments within the hospital, to contact providers on call, and to announce codes and notify the correct people when alarms sound.
• You are the person who will answer calls from the emergency telephones located outside and ensure that the emergency room is notified and responds to the person in distress.
• You will maintain a balanced cash drawer, verify ref labs, and sign off on cash deposits.
• You will sign as a witness when mortuaries pick up decedents, and make sure the medical records office gets the record.
• You are more than a telephone operator; you are a key player in patient safety, public perception of the hospital, and keeping the administrative side of things running smoothly.

Qualifications

Education Required: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Experience: Minimum of 6 months customer service required. Knowledge of computers, and other standard office equipment required.
