Overview

The Accounting Associate is responsible for the ongoing review, design and maintenance of the loan system’s internal general ledger interface which governs the General Ledger movements between the Loan Accounting system and the GL.  In addition, this position is responsible for providing assistance with the daily reconciliation responsibilities within the team as needed and is a resource for the identification, research and resolution of any outstanding reconciling items.  This position is also responsible for supporting the preparation of regulatory reporting and creation of the variance analysis against tight deadlines. Responsibilities also include reviewing daily loan system exception reports, working with other team members for resolution. 

Responsibilities

• Review loan system exception reports, including system-generated and ad hoc reports, to validate the accuracy of GL and sub ledger processing, and work with original entry resource to clear any exception.

• System expert in how the Loan Accounting system and GL interface operates.  Assist is resolving issues related to sub-ledger to GL activity.

• Interacts with the bank finance personnel to resolve accounting issues, document and analyze new accounting treatment requirements and works with vendor to design, test and implement enhancements

• Prepares monthly required regulatory reporting, variance analysis and detailed reconciliations reports in accordance with general accounting principles.

• Identifies training requirements through analysis of repetitive errors and provides information to management for resolution.

• Provides assistance with  daily manual reconciliation of all loan general ledger accounts as needed, which includes providing documentation necessary for  credit services personnel to identify and clear outstanding items or work with other departments to clear outstanding items within the standard timeframe. 

• Assist with special projects as an SME on the control environment for Loan Operations.

Requirements

• College in Accounting or Finance degree preferred but commensurate work experience will be considered.

• 2-5 years accounting experience preferred, with bank accounting experience preferred.

• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make independent and sound judgment calls on resolutions related to monthly yield analysis and reporting requirements.

• Demonstrated knowledge of sub ledger to GL processing with strong accounting skills required.
