We are engaged in a search for our Vice Provost, Global Initiatives and Diaspora Engagement.

The Vice Provost will provide innovative and strategic leadership with a focus on integrating global perspectives into curricula and research and ensuring its effective administrative operations. The Vice Provost will facilitate and coordinate with program directors and deans in all international education, research and outreach programs and partnerships in advancing the globalization and diaspora engagement of the university. The Vice Provost will work with the schools and colleges and academic departments to develop international study opportunities and curricula that integrate with and strengthen the academic programs; advocate for international programs on campus and grow institutional global presence and serve as a liaison to external constituencies related to international initiatives. The Vice provost will oversee international campus initiatives, such as study abroad, faculty led programs, international student and scholar services, national and international exchange programs, international student orientation, pre-departure and post-departure cultural affairs.

The Vice Provost must have experience in international affairs and diaspora engagement. The Vice Provost has a dual reporting line to the Provost and President.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Global Engagement

  • Develop a comprehensive database of the University’s global partnerships with higher education institutions, research networks, and associations, international agencies and intergovernmental organizations.
  • Identify and leverage federal, state, and city government programs for international partnerships including those of national research agencies.
  • Cultivate and oversee partnerships with international business firms and associations, and philanthropic organizations to support Howard’s global engagements.  ·
  • Strengthen and coordinate study abroad and exchange programs, international partnerships and agreements including dual degree and certificate programs.
  • Promote global education and outreach programs across the University through various events, and activities.
  • Promote international alumni relations by building and maintain networks of international alumni, organizing global alumni events and reunions abroad, and providing career support.
  • Explore opportunities for the development of international centers with the US Department of Education Title VI and other organizations.

Diaspora Engagement

  • Map the diaspora community in the DMV region and nationally to identify key individuals and organizations.
  • Organize networking events, mentorship programs, and collaborative projects with diaspora members.
  • Promote collaboration in areas such as education, business, research, and cultural exchange.
  • Leverage the skills, knowledge, and resources of the diaspora to support development initiatives in the home country.
  • Facilitate diaspora investment in economic and social development projects.
