Job Purpose
National Grid is seeking a Sr Supervisor Operations, Vegetation Management Distribution, in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Distribution Vegetation Management program at National Grid utilizes an internal management staff and an external contractor workforce to effectively deliver the vegetation management program across Massachusetts. Major program components include Enhanced Hazard Tree Mitigation and Enhanced Vegetation Management programs, and various system reliability projects. The position will oversee the daily activities of the contractor workforce to ensure completion of vegetation management programs in accordance with all National Grid requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Execution of a vegetation management sourcing model that utilizes external resources to deliver the workplan per the Asset Management strategy.
- Ensure that the vegetation management workplan is delivered in accordance with the annual budget and schedule constraints, as outlined by the appropriate jurisdiction.
- Execute comprehensive field audits to ensure contractor compliance with vegetation management line clearances and specifications.
- Evaluate vegetation management contractor performance relative to National Grid safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Execute Effective Safety Discussions (ESD) and Compliance Assessments (CA) per the monthly targets.
- Implementation of National Grid Vegetation Management Storm/Emergency restoration policies and procedures. Review and evaluate the effectiveness of the minor and major restoration efforts.
- Through inter-departmental coordination, provide professional, technical, and legal input in support of other National Grid strategies and objectives.
- Through external public relations, deliver and encourage public vegetation management education.
- Respond to customer inquiries and concerns while fostering and maintaining an effective working relationship with local officials. Attend various customer, community and municipal meetings as required.
- Monitor contractor productivity to ensure timely assignment and completion of customer related work requests via the work management system.
- Provide off hour coverage on a regular basis for routine emergencies as well as significant storm events. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Strong skills in public speaking, decision making, leadership and self-motivation.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910.269 Line Clearance Tree Trimming Operations, American National Standard A-300 & Z-133 National Electrical Safety Requirements for Arboricultural Operations.
- A valid driver's license with a safe driving history that meet's National Grid's Safe Driver policy is required.
- Desired work-related experience in the following areas: utility line clearance, contractor management, fiscal accountability, managerial decision making, public speaking, and natural resource field experience.
- Minimum of a two-year degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Forestry or a related natural resources field from an accredited school or related Line Clearance field experience.
- Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture.
- Support significant storm events through extended workdays, overnight shift coverage, etc. Travel to alternate locations / jurisdictions as required to support these events.
- Ability to traverse rough terrain (foot patrols) in remote locations while performing field crew visits and supporting field storm response.
