JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing materials within the warehouse and manufacturing facility. Tasks include loading and unloading shipments, organizing inventory, operating forklifts, operating overhead cranes, and maintaining accurate records of stock levels.
JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS
Safety and PPE
- Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
- PPE Requirements: Safety toed shoes and safety glasses.
- Some areas may require Hard Hats, Safety Gloves, Ear Protection, High-Visibility Clothing, etc.
- Drive a positive safety culture through continuous improvement.
- Performing daily inspection checklists on material handling equipment.
Material Flow
- Determine material quantities for manufacturing by reviewing the production schedule.
- Extracting inventory (raw material, parts, and components) from the warehouse.
- Maintain operation inventory levels through communication between material handling and manufacturing teams.
- Empty trash and scrap bins as needed.
Receiving and Distributing Material
- Unloading and loading semi-trailers and shipping containers including but not limited to:
- Raw materials
- Finished Goods
- Scrap (metals and cardboard)
- Receiving FedEx and UPS deliveries
- Receiving raw material for quality inspection.
- Staging material in warehouse storage racking and locations.
- Transferring material to different locations.
Cleaning and Area Upkeep
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment.
- Perform the 6S activities (sort, straighten, shine, standardize, sustain, and safety) to organize and manage workstations.
- Assists in daily cleaning work areas, desk, and warehouse areas.
- Ensure forklifts are adequately charged and parked neatly.
Other
- Attends meetings, workshops, and/or learning sessions as required and/or assigned.
- Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.
- May be required to work different shifts and/or outside of normal working hours if needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of basic reading, writing, and math.
- Knowledge of raw materials.
- Knowledge and understanding of computer programs/systems such as SAP and Microsoft Office Programs.
- Ability to operate a forklift, power pallet jacks, and overhead crane.
- Ability to interpret production schedule and manufacturing delivery schedule.
- Knowledge of basic hand tools.
- Ability to communicate professionally with truck drivers and suppliers/vendors.
- Ability to climb up and down ladders.
- Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs.
- Ability to navigate with small trailer.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures regarding health and safety issues.
- Ability to carry out instructions in written, verbal, and diagram form.
- Ability to adhere to the highest standards of quality while continually performing at the highest possible level.
- Ability to perform with superior service, reflecting a positive company image while sustaining a positive attitude with those you interact with; always going above and beyond to help others out, regardless of their position or department.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to operate pallet bander and cardboard baler.
Education, Certification/License & Work Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years of experience with material handling
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
