Senior Product Designer
M&T BankAbout the role
Overview:
We are the Mobile and Online Banking Design team supporting M&T's Retail Bank, along-side some incredible product and technology partners. Our teams' mission is to design effective and useful product experiences that enhance how our customers interact with us, and their finances. We are active members within a larger Design Community that spans across M&T and Wilmington Trust and aims to support designers, advocate, and educate.
Over the next year, you'll support several key priorities our team is tackling, including:
· Assisting our business and technology partners in continued efforts to decommission legacy systems that underpin our current products
· Evolving how we systematically shape and push updates to our Mobile and Online Banking products
· Beginning to modernize those platforms focusing on core experiences, such as enrolling and logging in, viewing accounts and account details, and moving money.
· Building a north star Retail Digital Experience vision and roadmap for both our Mobile and Online Banking products, shaping the long-term delivery of customer value
You'll bring a strong background (and portfolio) in Experience Strategy, Interaction Design, and Information Architecture, experience and comfort with Figma and Design Systems, and deep expertise in shaping and executing on strategies aimed at overhauling pre-existing software products (You’ve ideally contributed to and / or led major application re-designs, the definition of new capabilities and features, and have hands-on experience determining and building new navigational models).
You'll also have an innate curiosity that allows you to get to the root cause of problems, see impacts across systems, and forge trusting relationships across a network. You are a self-starter, organized, and have outstanding attention to detail.
In return, you'll get to work alongside a diverse team of talented, kind, and passionate designers (no egos here) who support and challenge each other while striving to create psychological safety for all. You will have regular 1:1's with coaching and feedback, while having autonomy to drive your own quarterly plans and development goals.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Take individual ownership over medium to large sized design projects, leading them successfully with limited oversight / guidance. Shape new requirements and influence project strategies as they progress.
· Effectively build and organize design recommendations and solutions based on a number of varying criteria, including quickest to build, best user experience, most accommodating of long-term vision, etc.
· Develop data informed design solutions at the appropriate fidelity using known methods and be able to confidently present with appropriate context for your audience, justification for decisions, and openness to feedback.
· Initiate, build, and deepen trusting relationships with teammates, business/tech partners and key stakeholders
· Understand the fundamentals of the Retail and Consumer Businesses and Products, and work to increase depth of knowledge over time.
· Use appropriate research and discovery methods to gain empathy for and an understanding of the people who use our products (including goals, motivators, pain-points, contexts, jobs, etc.), in partnership with our UX Research Team
· Maintain a robust design 'toolbox' with design tools, principles, approaches and artifacts, deploying them appropriately throughout a design effort to help think, map, communicate, and solve, structure, organize, facilitate, ideate, synthesize, etc. (Examples: Journey Map, Heuristics, Blueprint, Card Sort, Affinity Map, Process Diagram, Tree Test, Stakeholder Interviews)
· Identify and track stories in our work that we can tell to elevate our team and our outcomes, and use them to create compelling presentations, communications or media that promote our team and work to communities within or outside of M&T.
· connect design decisions and product direction to broader product / business line/ enterprise vision.
· Ensure complete understanding of the problem we are solving, the context for which we are solving it and how we will know we are successful.
· Develop fluency and alignment with Currency Design System, enabling use, advocacy, and contribution.
· Set and maintain high standard for Visual / UI / Interaction Design quality and consistency throughout our Retail Digital products and experiences.
· Collaborate with teammates and developer partners to create and implement processes to ensure design quality throughout entire development lifecycle.
· Maintain and balance both near-term and visionary experience goals.
