Registered Nurse (RN) Outpatient - OBGYN

The Inova OB/GYN Clinic in Ballston is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse.

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm

Inova Obstetrics and Gynecology - Ballston is located at 2800 S Shirlington Rd 706, Arlington, VA 22206

Inova Obstetrics and Gynecology provides prenatal care, in-hospital birthing, gynecologic care and well-woman check ups for females of all ages. All of our physicians are board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

The OB/GYN Triage Nurse will serve as a clinical resource for LPNs and Medical Assistants for professional practice and collaborate with Practice Managers under the guidance of the Inova Medical Group (IMG) Physicians to promote Best Practice; Patient safety, adhering to protocols and standards of practice established by Inova Medical Group, Quality Standards and Patient Satisfaction. 

Job duties for the Inova OBGYN RN Outpatient include:  
1. Telephone Triage 

• Provides professional nursing triage services
• May advise patient using an evidence-based triage resource tool/ triage algorithms (an approved triage book or EMR based reference material)
• Telephone screening to collect pertinent patient information prior to routing/consulting with a provider
• Reviews detailed symptom analysis of patient problems, reviews patient EMR record
• Provides advice only and / or recommendations for escalating treatment
• Schedules office visit if required
• Collaborates with physician as appropriate to determine action plan / escalation for OB patients
• Notifies OB Triage/OB Emergency/Labor and Delivery, communicates SBAR information
• Documents telephone triage call in the EMR

2. Medication Refills

• Reviews patient EMR for prescribed medication indication / history
• Confirms medication prescription to ensure it is the right medication, dosage, and frequency
• Reviews allergies / changes in medical history
• Confirms pharmacy
• Contacts patient to schedules appointment if required for refill
• Completes refill request to physician in EMR
• Notifies patient when indicated

3.  Medication administration

• Administer approved medications as per Inova Medical Group Policy

4.  Medication inquiries from pharmacies / pre-authorizations

• Assist pharmacy with inquiries concerning medication information required to fill prescription
• Initiate pre-authorizations when required

5.  Specialty Referrals

• Care coordination with physician, referral office and patient to obtain appointment
• Faxes and confirms transmission of necessary information to referral office as needed
• Documents / scans all relevant information in EMR

6.  OB patients - Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM)

• Calls Antenatal Testing Centers at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, Inova Alexandria Hospital, and Inova Loudoun Hospital for same day appointments
• Communicates SBAR information

7.  In Basket

• Clinical Resource collaborating In Basket management with LPNs and MAs

8.  PAP, Colposcopy, Leep Procedure Follow up

• Clinical Resource collaborating with LPNs, MAs for PAP follow up and notification
• Ensures Procedure Log completion as per IMG Guidelines

9.  Clinical Resource for Patient Access Associates (PAAs) scheduling appointments, collaborating with physician as indicated

• PAAs to transfer all patient calls to RN with questions regarding clinical symptoms and follow ups based on relevant clinical information to determine how soon patient should be scheduled in the office

10.  Maintains established departmental policies and procedures; oversees annual clinical
       competencies; attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested
 
11.  Conducts clinical audits established by nursing clinical leadership to influence patient
       outcomes, based on recognized standards of care and evidence based best practices
 
12.  Maintains own clinical expertise by attending service programs and continuing education

Requirements:

• 0 years of Registered Nurse clinical experience required. At least 1 year of RN experience in OB is strongly preferred.
