Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.
ESH invites applications for the FOOD SERVICE TECH II - COOK.
This position is responsible for preparing attractive and nutritional meals according to standardized recipes within specified time constraints and using the cook-chill method of food preparation and storage. This position will ensure safety and sanitation standards are always met; assure the appropriate quantity and portion size are prepared correctly; prepare modified textures for patients with special needs; assist in the training activities of new employees and may supervise new staff during training at the request of the department manager; and follow all protocols, rules and regulations as required by the department, facility, and other regulatory agencies.
SCHEDULE: Must be available to work an alternate work schedule with hours from 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM and shifts scheduled on weekdays, alternate weekends, and some holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience working in hospital/institutional food service department or other large-volume commercial kitchen is required.
Completion of food safety certifications or trainings relevant to food handling and hygiene practices within 30 days of hire is required.
Ability to routinely lift 50 pounds or 25% of body weight (whichever is less). Flexibility to respond to changing needs and priorities within a fast-paced food service environment.
