Job Description:

   

The Emerging Accelerators Team (EAT) in the AI Research Lab of Hewlett Packard Labs has an opening for an IC design tool and methodology Technical Lead (TL).  EAT is a vertically integrated team currently focused on research into analog in-memory computing circuits and architectures for AI/ML workload acceleration.  The TL’s fundamental role is to enable custom IC designs utilizing mixed signal CMOS circuits as well as emerging devices such as resistive RAM non-volatile memory for EAT as well as other teams across Hewlett Packard Labs.

Role and Responsibilities:

Key design tool and methodology technical lead responsibilities are:

  • Provide technical expertise, leadership, and execution for creating CAD tools/methodologies/flows and design environments for the custom IC physical design team.  Conceptualize and drive overall design methodology architecture.  Engage, mentor, and lead other team members to support this work as appropriate.

  • Install and maintain PDKs from silicon foundry vendors and design/implement/maintain tool suites and runsets from CAD vendors.  Write wrapper and customization scripts as needed.

  • Member of pan-HPE VLSI Common Tools and Methodologies Team. 

  • Interface with vendors and guide/recommend CAD tool product selection.  Partner with other HPE teams to share tools and best practices.

  • Interface with IT teams to specify compute and storage needs for design databases as well as maintaining system libraries and dependencies for compatibility with tool versions.

  • Interface with external design services or project teams to ensure compatible design infrastructure to support collaborations.

  • Understand evolving IC design methodology requirements across Hewlett Packard Labs and work with Labs leadership to define future organizational needs and structure.

  • Track innovation and best practices in the industry and propose integration of new technologies into the IC design environment.

  • Additional responsibilities may be defined based on the candidate’s interests in the context of project needs, in concert with EAT leadership.

Education and Experience Required:

  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.

  • 10 years of experience developing and implementing CAD tools, methodologies, and design environments for custom IC design.
