Summary
Under the general supervision of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) Information Technology (IT) Department’s Assistant IT Director (PMO & Applications), the Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for the successful completion of all IT projects. Works with the IT department staff and clients to complete assigned implementations of new IT systems and/or system upgrade projects. Guides IT resources towards ultimate client business solutions and assumes a leadership role in ensuring proper project planning, resources scheduling, project budget management, project evaluation and client satisfaction. Distinguishing Features: The Senior IT Project Manager is distinguished from the IT Project Manager II and IT Project Manager I levels by assuming the primary role of project management leadership. Ensures the successful completion of all implementation projects rather than focusing on individual assignments. Mentors the IT Project Manager I and IT Project Manager II staff.
Examples of duties
1. Project Management: Determines, documents, and manages project scope, schedule and budget.- Serves as project manager on multiple concurrent complex projects.
- Utilizes and strictly follows the approved SRPMIC project management methodology. Ensures methodology is followed by entire project team.
- Communicates effectively to all levels of the organization.
- Takes ownership of project budget and schedule. Tracks project expenses and staff hours worked weekly.
- Prepares monthly status reports and presents project status reports to customers, sponsors, management and administration. Commits to a quality project.
- Leads a project team composed of IT staff, internal customers and consultants. Facilitates the advancement of the project through various phases of project implementation.
- Analyzes projects to ensure conformance with Community and IT strategic plans.
- Seeks opportunities to improve original project intent.
- Resolves the most difficult problems and conflicts, both technical and not technical.
- Ensures that project progress, assumptions, scope changes, issues and risks are appropriately documented and addressed.
- Utilizes change management best practices including organizational readiness, stakeholder analysis, and change communications in order to improve project success and post-implementation customer adoption.
- Develops contracts and manages the contract process for projects.
- Procures and accepts project related equipment, software and any other required purchases for the IT and customer department.
- Manages scope and works with stakeholders to discuss trade-offs and risks of changing scope.
2. Leadership: Provides leadership and promotes shared responsibility among the team.
- Continually seeks to further group empowerment and conflict resolution.
- Functions as a unit team leader to assist in coordinating work and developing functional and technical team leads. Organizes and manages interdepartmental activities to maintain project status and schedule.
- Personifies leadership and promotes shared responsibility amongst teams.
- Resolves problems, manages the consultant selection and management process, reviews deliverables and prepares project status reports for project sponsors, management and Tribal Government Administration.
- Listens and communicates effectively with a diverse group of people.
- Evaluates overall and individual work performance to determine effectiveness in providing quality products within time and cost restraints.
- Champions continuous improvement efforts within the PMO division, Information Technology department, and the Community.
3. Operational Effectiveness and Efficiency: Promotes project management excellence.
- Responsible for ensuring adherence to established project management standards by project management staff and meeting established project performance metrics.
- Thinks creatively and is driven by opportunities to continually improve.
