We are currently hiring for a Senior Development Director in our West Michigan office.  The Senior Director will serve as a player/coach who oversee our Heart Ball campaign, a Go Red for Women campaign, and a Heart Challenge campaign which includes our signature Heart Walk event.  The Senior Director will provide direct coaching and supervision to one professional fundraising staff member.

 

In this role, the Senior Development Director will manage their own Heart Ball campaign (Grand Rapids) and will coach a fundraising staff member on the Kalamazoo Heart Challenge campaign and the Kalamazoo Go Red for Women campaign. 

 

This is an office based position that offers a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Generate revenue by prospecting and securing local corporate sponsorship and individual donations.  Achieve revenue goals by building and maintaining relationships with corporate partners and donors.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective corporate sponsors and donors by conducting research that matches to the campaign goals and the Association's mission.
  • Develop and present proposals and accompanying materials to secure revenue and volunteer engagement.
  • Recruit and be responsible for executive volunteer leadership, volunteer committees, and day-of-the-event volunteers.
  • Recruit corporate team participation in Heart Walk and motivate team members to fundraise.
  • Lead and engage new individual membership for our Cor Vitae giving society, in partnership with other appropriate fundraising staff.  Includes planning and implementing regular engagement events for members.
  • Plan and implement events in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Guide and direct assigned staff to reach goals.

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising or outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity.
  • 1+ years of experience in a management capacity. This experience may occur within the 3-year related experience requirement.  Experience gained through direct internal work on American Heart Association projects/priorities may substitute for this requirement and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations, and similar narrative pieces.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals, as well as fundraising reports. Skill in use of spreadsheet/database analysis.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift and/or move large objects (such as boxes) with the expectation that heavier items would be broken down into smaller components or requesting additional assistance may be required before lifting and/or moving.
  • Ability to do daily local travel up to 75%; requires access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis.
