Internship Program Overview: Our 2026 Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 8, 2026. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer.
Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC’s many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program.
Department Overview: The Public Affairs team is responsible for the development and execution of press materials, proactive media outreach and relationship building, press events, crisis communications, social media channels, external speaking engagements, and the development of internal materials related to NYCEDC projects and initiatives. Public Affairs works alongside the Government & Community Relations and Marketing teams to build wholistic external messaging for NYCEDC. In doing so, our team engages with all internal departments as well as a variety of external stakeholders, other city agencies, and City Hall to craft messaging and storytelling and execute events when needed.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Drafts press materials including press releases, quotes, and media advisories
- Drafts briefing memos, talking points, and other prep materials for NYCEDC speakers and members of the President’s Office
- Compiles daily news clippings focused on NYCEDC projects and relevant industry news
- Meets with teams across NYCEDC for project updates and press planning
- Provides input on press planning and media strategies
- Provide staffing support at press conferences and speaking engagements
- Builds and maintain media lists
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Preferred field(s) of study: Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, English, or other equivalents.
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC
- Demonstrated written, verbal, and analytical skills
- Understanding of database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams
- Ability to work full-time, Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM and complete the entirety of the 10-week program
