Investment Controllership – Statutory Reporting Director
This Director is accountable for leading quarterly and annual statutory financial reporting for investment‑related deliverables, including regulatory and audited financial statement footnotes and capital schedules. The role also drives investment balance sheet and income‑statement analytics and oversees delivery of investment materials supporting capital forecasting, rating agencies, the Board of Directors, and the Audit Committee.
Beyond core reporting responsibilities, the Director plays a visible leadership role in the Investment Platform Redesign initiative and other high‑impact, cross‑functional strategic projects that shape how investment reporting data is produced, governed, and consumed across the organization.
The position carries meaningful dotted-line people‑leadership responsibility, including developing and inspiring a high‑performing reporting team, strengthening technical and business acumen, and building future leaders within Investment Controllership. The Director also champions continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to streamline reporting processes, strengthen controls, deliver value‑added insights, and elevate the quality and usability of investment reporting.
This role maintains strong partnerships and serves as a trusted advisor to stakeholders across the organization and externally, including senior Investment and Controllership leadership, Investment Risk, Capital Forecasting and Rating Agency Management teams, and external audit (KPMG).
This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.
It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, OH. The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of One Nationwide Plaza, Columbus OH, 43215.
This position will be hired on a SuccessFlex basis. You will be required to come into the office two days per week, according to the department's current schedule.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Directs the investment accounting, preparation, analysis and filing of financial statements, data and exhibits and other reports for internal and external sources.
Reviews, advises, counsels and participates actively on new systems developments and other related matters to ensure accuracy of all financial data.
Manages special projects/assignments as advised by senior management.
Provides advise, counsel and assistance on investment accounting policies and practices.
Responds to applicable inquiries from state insurance departments, internal and external auditors and other regulatory agencies. Provides financial information to various Nationwide offices to be used in the support of other filing, analysis and reporting requirements.
Directs the preparation of special reports, analyses and financials as requested by management and external agencies.
