Job Duties

The Labor Market Analyst Senior is responsible for producing, analyzing, and interpreting local labor force statistics used to assess economic conditions across states, counties, and metropolitan areas. The role supports federal and state reporting requirements by applying standardized statistical methods to estimate employment, unemployment, and labor force participation. The Labor Market Analyst Senior ensures data accuracy, maintains methodological consistency, and provides insights that inform workforce policy, program planning, and economic development strategies. Responsibilities include data validation, trend analysis, quality assurance, collaboration with federal partners, and communicating findings to internal and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of survey design, sampling, data collection principles and practices, research methodology; statistical and economic principles and analysis; quality assurance techniques; and employment and unemployment activities. Demonstration of strong analytical skills, program management and evaluation, customer service, oral and written communication; leadership, and computer skills (including use of Microsoft Office Professional and automated data systems). Demonstrated ability to lead staff and oversee the work of others; ensure contract deliverables; work with management team to establish and achieve goals and objectives; collect, analyze, interpret, and report data; identify, address and document discrepancies, trends, and variances; respond to requests for information; interact effectively with various parties; interpret and apply standards; provide technical assistance; and handle administrative requirements.

Additional Considerations

Knowledge of employment and unemployment activities in Virginia and of the occupational classification system (especially the Standard Occupational Classification code). Experience conducting quality assurance reviews and managing a program area.
