This position will assist with regulatory and technical accounting matters, including monitoring emerging accounting issues for U.S. GAAP (including SEC matters), Statutory Accounting Principles (“SAP”) and international accounting (“IFRS”).  This position will also assist with developing policies for the Company that comply with GAAP and SAP and understand the implications of these policies with respect to company products and transactions.  The  Senior Analyst consults with and supports financial reporting, the business lines, investment accounting and other areas of the Company in identifying and resolving accounting, statutory and regulatory issues and inquiries. In addition, the position will be responsible for day-to-day coordination of financial examinations and certain other interactions with the Company’s state regulators. Finally, the position will assist in developing and conducting training programs, including presentations on current issues to internal and external parties. The position will also assist with other special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • 50% Monitor, review, and report to management on emerging accounting and reporting issues at standard setting and regulatory bodies such as IASB, IAIS, FASB, NAIC, relevant foreign jurisdictions, etc.  Assist with the implementation of new accounting standards and understand/advise on the implications of new policies with respect to Protective’s accounting and reporting processes.
  • 20% Respond to technical questions from other departments regarding accounting, reinsurance and business combinations, due diligence, and other special transactions. When appropriate, coordinate with the tax department to identify tax implications.
  • 10% Assist with development and scheduling training programs and opportunities for Company accountants and actuaries.
  • 20% Other special projects as assigned, including coordination of state Financial Examinations.

Requirements/Education

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or equivalent college credit with accounting emphasis. Masters in Accounting desirable.
  • CPA or similar designation
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in GAAP accounting. Insurance accounting, statutory accounting and international accounting knowledge a plus.
  • Must have strong research, presentation, negotiation, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills, able to meet deadlines; extreme attention to detail is essential; ability to influence others towards positive results and actions; focused, timely, meets deadlines.
  • Create Cohesive, mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to interact with senior management on complex issues
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $71,500 to $120,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.This position also offers additional incentive opportunities [through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance] OR [through cash compensation as part of a sales incentive plan (SIP).
