JOB TITLE:
Assistant Director of Performance Dietetics
JOB PURPOSE:
Provides appropriate nutritional interventions for student-athletes including, but not limited to, weight management, optimal body composition, management of diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders, anemia, eating disorders and disordered eating, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, food allergies and intolerances, reducing inflammation, injury prevention & healing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides appropriate nutritional interventions for student-athletes including, but not limited to, weight management, optimal body composition, management of diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders, anemia, eating disorders and disordered eating, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, food allergies and intolerances, reducing inflammation, injury prevention & healing.
- Assesses and counsels assigned student-athletes and staff regarding appropriate and legal use of dietary supplements, regularly banned drugs, and restricted substances in compliance with sport governing bodies (e.g., NCAA, U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, World Anti-Doping Agency, etc.) and the University of Wyoming Athletic Department policies.
- Assists with maintaining up to date policies and procedures in the Sports Nutrition Department. Assists the director with fostering an environment focused on student-athlete development.
- Provides education, schedules and administers DEXA scans for student-athletes; analyzes and discusses results on an individual basis.
- Assesses and analyzes dietary practices and energy balance of student-athletes. Creates meal plans and intake recommendations based on assessed student-athlete needs.
- Collaborates and consults with the Director of Student-Athlete Well-Being and Medical Director/Primary Care Physician to identify and respond to at-risk behaviors; works together to develop strategies that respond to mental health and nutritional needs and participates in multi-disciplinary teams consistent with the needs of identified student-athletes.
- Communicates with UW Athletics Physician/s, Sports Medicine and Sports Performance staff regarding consulted student-athletes and plan of care.
- Assists the Director of Performance Dietetics with recruiting, managing, training, mentoring and evaluating student interns/work study to keep the High Altitude Fueling Station clean and stocked adequately as requested.
- Assists the Director of Performance Dietetics with ordering, daily stocking, inventory, organization, cleaning and budget of all High Altitude Fueling Station products as requested.
- Consults with Executive Chef in meal planning (e.g., training table, catered meals, pre-game/post-game meals, holiday break training, competition fueling, etc.).
