About the team + role
We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to oversee Corporate Accounting, Consolidations and Order to Cash, including the monthly close process end-to-end. Reporting to the Controller, you will be responsible for hiring and developing team members, managing day-to-day accounting activities, and establishing new processes as well as improving existing processes to drive efficiency. You will interact and coordinate with colleagues in Finance & Strategy, Tax, Corporate Engineering and various other departments across the Company to ensure proper accounting treatment and accurate financial results. The Assistant Controller will play a key leadership role in the Finance organization around process improvement, system implementations and optimizations, automation initiatives, M&A integration, standardizing processes and mentoring the team.
It is preferred that this role is located in one of the office locations listed on this job description which will align with our in-office working environment. This position is only eligible for remote work in limited geographies within the US where we do not have physical office locations. What you’ll do
- Provide leadership, support and professional development opportunities to the growing US and international Robinhood accounting team
- Lead the monthly close process, including coordinating with teams that have dependencies on the close calendar
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify how strategic business and product changes impact accounting. Ensure the accounting related to new products is operationalized timely and internal controls are established
- Work with the Finance Engineering team to automate the accounting close process and ensure finance systems are being used in the most efficient manner
- Liaise with Technical Accounting to drive reporting and policy-based projects and documentation
- Lead the order to cash process, including accurate invoicing and timely collections of outstanding receivables
- Ensure successful accounting integrations of all M&A transactions, including compliance with US GAAP/Robinhood policies, systems and opening balance sheet
- Assist with finance transformation initiatives, including the chart of accounts redesign and implementation
- Develop a culture of mentorship, continuous improvement, training and success in the accounting organization
- Support external audit requirements related to specific areas of responsibility
What you bring
- 15+ years of total experience with increasing levels of responsibility including people management
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills, high energy and initiative - with a proven ability to manage significant initiatives across the organization, as well as develop and motivate staff
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, excellent soft-skills, and ability to motivate and influence all levels of management
- Strong understanding of technical accounting issues
- Ability to assess and implement technology to automate and control numerous accounting processes
- Strong knowledge and understanding of IT general controls, application controls and how they relate to business processes
- Experience with system implementations and M&A integrations preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA required
