Van Andel Institute’s Security Department is seeking to hire a Full time Security Manager.
Van Andel Institute’s Security Department supports the Van Andel Institute’s Scientific and Educational mission by protecting the assets of the Institute: people, property, and information through consistent quality service 24 hours a day - 365 days a year.
As a Security Manager, you will:
- Design and implement policies and strategies for various physical protection responsibilities; including but not limited to, internal investigations, executive management protection, workplace violence prevention, proprietary information protection, emergency planning and disaster recovery, asset protection, access control systems and video surveillance.
- Develop, implement, and manage the overall enterprise security systems and its associated architecture to include new construction, renovations, or acquisitions.
- Plan, develop and manage security services, including threat analysis, staffing requirements, continuous internal auditing of the Institutes’ facilities and security programs, policy and procedure creation, evaluation, and modification.
- Manage personnel to include hiring, onboarding, performance management, training and development, work allocation, problem resolution, and employee discipline.
- Develop and manage department goals, objectives, and budget; design and implement policies and procedures to enhance or maximize security service operations; coordinate ongoing review of existing security programs and initiate development of new programs.
- Oversee incident response planning as well as the investigation of security breaches and assist with disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches as necessary.
- Develop, coordinate, and participate in a multifaceted educational and training programs that focus on the elements of security services, and ensure that all appropriate employees and management are knowledgeable of, and comply with, pertinent federal and state standards.
- Maintain close communication with management and respond to requests for support and work with outside consultants as appropriate.
- Define and implement ongoing Risk Assessment program; define, identify, and classify critical assets, assess threats/vulnerabilities regarding those assets, and implement safeguard recommendations.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
To join our team, you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Security, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive security experience, including 1-3 years of prior lead or supervisory experience.
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation is required or ability to obtain within 12 months from date of hire, while proficiency in Medical First Response and Hazardous Materials is preferred.
- Requires demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, ability to utilize computer applications of varying degrees of complexity.
- Requires a valid driver’s license with acceptable traffic record, no criminal record which would question credibility or public trust of security staff.
- Position requires this individual to be armed and respond to critical incidents 24/7.
