Associate Researcher I (Dr Rajbhandari's Lab) - Metabolism Institute
Mount Sinai Health SystemAbout the role
The lab of Dr. Prashant Rajbhandari in the Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism Institute (DOMI) has an opening for an Associate Researcher I.
Rajbhandari Lab is broadly interested in 1) Immune cell regulation of lipid metabolism, 2) the developmental process of brown/beige and white fat, and 3) crosstalk between adipose and other metabolic tissues (esp liver) in the setting of obesity. The lab uses cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, next-gen sequencing (ChIP-, RNA-, ATAC-seq), animal models, single cell/nuclei RNA sequencing, and imaging to address these topics. The lab seeks to further advance the understanding of human adiposity in collaboration with St. Luke’s Hospital. The broader significance of the work in Rajbhandari Lab is that obesity is linked to various diseases, and studying how cellular and molecular pathways are perturbed in the setting of obesity might provide a better understanding of this disease.
The Associate Researcher I will participate in a research study that focuses on the role of transcription factor PATZ1 in obesity and adipose tissue biology. Your responsibilities in this research include standard molecular biology, cell culture, and RNA and protein expression experiments.
- Standard Molecular Biology techniques (PCR, recombinant gene cloning, site directed, mutagenesis, Gibson assemble cloning (preferred))
- Preparation of reagents and solutions and buffers for experiments.
- RNA and protein extraction for qPCR and western blot, respectively.
- Mammalian cell culture techniques.
- Animal handing, colony management, and genotyping (preferred).
- Performs other related duties
- Bachelors or Masters degree in science or related field required
- 1 - 2 years of research/laboratory experience
