Reporting
Reporters
Reporter interns join one of the newsroom’s reporting teams, which include breaking news, crime, business, local education, local government, state politics, sports, and black culture. Prior experience in daily deadline writing and reporting is required. Awareness of video, photography, and other digital skills is also preferred. Must have worked on the campus newspaper or website and/or had previous professional news internship.
Data Reporter
We’re looking for someone with a strong news sense -- ideally a person who has already worked at one regular reporting internship -- who has a deep interest in working with data as the starting point of a story. Prior experience in writing and reporting on deadline is required. Programming skills preferred but not required. What’s required, above all else, is a desire to work with data along with the ability to fumble through Excel and learn SQL. Knowledge of statistical packages, such as R, and mapping is a plus.
VISUALS TEAM: INTERNSHIPS
The AJC’s video, motion design and photo interns will learn to deliver work across diverse, creative platforms. Candidates should have a passion for immersive storytelling and creating content that educates and inspires through compelling narratives and engaging visuals. Interns may be involved in video production, interactive/motion graphics, or photojournalism.
Video Production Intern
Interns will partner on executing stories from conception through completion and will develop skills in pitching, reporting, writing, shooting and editing. Candidates should have an understanding of how to conceptualize and execute feature and serialized content in the documentary and news space. As a video intern, you must care about quality, possess a strong aesthetic eye, and be digital-first in your approach.
- Familiarity or experience editing video with Adobe Premier Pro
- Comfortable shooting video on digital cine cameras
- Basic understanding of composition and framing.
