Clinical Social Worker (Behavioral Health)

Overview
The Clinical Social Worker provides direct care to Joslin patients and their families, consultation to medical staff regarding psychosocial issues that interfere with patients’ and family members’ ability to manage diabetes, and support to the clinic’s educational/behavioral/medical programs.

Responsibilities
- Evaluates and treats patients with psychiatric, behavioral and other mental health conditions.
- evaluates and diagnoses psychiatric and behavioral problems
- chooses appropriate therapy
- recognizes potential effects of interventions
- actively refers patients to appropriate clinicians
- understands the psychological implications and medical complications of diabetes relevant to treatment
- Provides behavioral support for clinic programs.
- teaches the behavioral components and leads support groups that are part of the clinic’s educational, medical and weight management programs
- provides consultation to the clinic teams conducting these programs
- develops innovative interventions for patients and their families
- designs and completes outcomes evaluation of programs
- Works in collegial fashion with other healthcare professionals.
- shares appropriate care with other healthcare professionals
- consults with other healthcare providers for relevant treatment decisions
- provides consultation to other clinical staff
- Maintains clinic and professional standards of care.
- assists with quality assurance and utilization management
- maintains clinic and regulatory standards of care and codes of ethics
- initiates strategies for practice improvement
- promotes the value of Joslin Clinic models of care
- Participates in professional development.
- attends and participates in clinical and educational conferences
- satisfies departmental and Harvard Medical School teaching obligations
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Social Work
- 3 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- Licensure as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Massachusetts
- Familiarity with diabetes preferred
