Daytime hours, with ~1/mo on-call responsiblities

Purpose: Analyzes ethical issues related to patient care to facilitate communication and decision making among Advocate Aurora Health team members patients families and substitute/surrogate decision makers provides ethics education to team members patients substitute/surrogate decision makers and the community and contributes to Advocate Aurora Health ethics policy development. This role can be based in greater Chicago or greater Milwaukee area. Accountabilities :Responds to ethics consultation requests from team members patients family substitute/surrogate decision makers and others involved in the patient`s care. Assesses medical facts patient issues and contextual factors through review of the medical record relevant documentation and conversation with care team members patient and/or substitute/surrogate decision~makers. Effectively communicates clinical social and contextual information of the case and identifies ethical issues to be addressed. Assists with identifying the ethical values held by the individuals related to the case including the patient`s moral framework values goals of care and preferences and analyzes ethical principles pertinent to cases. Mediates and helps resolve communication issues conflicts or dilemmas among team members patients family members and/or substitute/surrogate decision~makers related to patient care. Identifies non~ethics issues raised during consultation that may warrant notification to partner areas such as but not limited to Medical Staff Leadership Administration Compliance Human Resources Legal Clinical Risk Management Mission and Spiritual Care and/or other system departments. Maintains clear and comprehensive documentation for ethics consultation performed including documentation in patient`s electronic health record if appropriate.
