As a Staff Engineer II, you'll provide expertise in a suite of technical tools and products in a given domain to ensure solutions are safe, secure, compliant and reliable. You'll identify develop and support needs, as well as taking on design responsibilities supporting project tasks. AS the Staff Engineer, II, you'll facilitate dialogue and activities to ensure team collaboration including teams outside of your domain. You'll develop effective presentations and narratives for their teams.As the Staff Data Engineer II, you are critical engineer in a continuous delivery team dedicated to providing integrated data flows, data warehousing and analytic ecosystem across our Western Alliance Bank business lines. You are the technical expert in a high-performing centralized team of data engineers, data analysts and QA engineers. You champion data quality and discipline in the full data lifecycle. You must demonstrate strong technical mastery as well as an ability to collaborate and communicate with both technical team members and business stakeholders. You partner closely with enterprise architects to understand and implement solutions based on the recommended Azure Cloud data architecture and capabilities. You are required to know and/or learn modern automation and integration methods and tools, with Cloud-First design patterns, frameworks, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Being knowledgeable and up to date in the data integration and analytics trends in the industry is a differentiator in your role.
Lead the strategic planning of a project as it relates to technical solution design.
- Design and implement engineering principles aimed at reliability practices and sound recovery procedures.
- Design transaction specific application performance monitoring metrics that can be captured and passed to business partners.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations and procedures while also ensuring compliance with IT policies, procedures, and industry standards. Develop desktop procedures when needed that others follow.
- Implement data engineering solutions that satisfy the full data lifecycle including efficient technical hygiene and the use of Azure DevOps for the implementation of the Western Alliance Bank Regulatory Reporting and Analytics strategy and roadmap.
- Develop ETL and data pipeline capabilities considering how data is created, transformed, maintained, stored, archived, analyzed, and shared across Western Alliance Bank and our partners.
- Implement Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines in accordance with Western Alliance Bank technical standards.
- Implement data governance and data quality controls in all data solutions in accordance with enterprise standards.
- Apply Test Driven Development methodology to all data solution design and implementations.
- Implement methods to include unstructured data and big data.
- Lead the implementation of outcomes, recommendations, and designs from Data Governance and Enterprise Architecture.
- Actively participate in making data architecture decisions.
- Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to gain a working understanding of business requirements and operational processes.
- Provide technical mentorship to team members and other data professionals.
- As needed, perform data exploration and data profiling with tools such as Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud and/or SPSS.
What you'll need:
- 7+ years’ experience with data engineering specifically in Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) concepts and processes, enterprise data warehouse capabilities, database principles, and other related tools and technologies; preferably strong to expert in Azure Data Factory and/or Databricks.
- 2+ years’ experience designing, implementing, and supporting cloud data solutions; Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Services, Azure Synapse, Azure Logic Apps, and Azure DevOps experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience in data management and/or data analytics.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
- Advanced proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Additional experience with pipeline development and leveraging Azure DevOps while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
