Dow has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Environmental Regulatory Expert within the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability Technology Center. This position may be located at any Dow site within the U.S. Virtual candidates may also be considered.
About you and this role:
As the Senior Environmental Regulatory Expert, you will serve as the regulatory subject matter expert (SME) for one or more environmental media (air, water, soil, waste, wetlands, pipelines, underground storage, etc.). The primary responsibilities of the SME role are to:
- Provide specialized depth of expertise on one or more environmental subject matter areas.
- Develop advocacy positions that will allow Dow to deliver on its sustainability goals, create value, and/or protect our license to operate.
- Track changes to assigned federal, state, and/or local environmental regulations.
- Develop written comments on key EPA, state, and/or local rule proposals.
- Participate on environmental advocacy groups and promote Dow’s positions with national, state, and/or local trade associations.
- Provide expert regulatory support to operating facilities along with supporting potential mergers & acquisitions, policy, legislative, and/or enforcement matters.
- Lead and/or support teams to assist manufacturing plants in implementing new and/or revised environmental requirements.
- Develop and deliver training on assigned regulations.
- Interpret regulations for the manufacturing organization.
- Provide expert regulatory support for permit strategies and regulatory negotiations.
- Conduct and provide support for environmental audits.
Additional Responsibilities:
This role also provides project management – typically overseeing multiple implementation projects at any given time. Supports sites and departments in ensuring compliance with legislation, regulation, and policy along with the coordination and management of Government Agency visits. Evaluates and proposes cost-effective environmental improvement initiatives and projects. Develops understanding of key plant processes and businesses within assigned regions or hubs to understand impact of new regulations.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or other relevant science related degree or 15 years of relevant environmental regulatory experience or relevant military experience at a U.S. E6 rank or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or higher.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience is preferred.
- Ability to translate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Highly motivated to deliver against project deliverables.
- High interest in learning and ability to function in a high change environment.
- Excellence in communication and collaboration.
- Proven track record of results.
- Some travel may be required as part of the role (less than 10%).
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
