This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line – the internationally recognized boundary of space. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
As part of a hardworking team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers and technicians, you will be responsible for supporting test campaigns on mechanical flight hardware! You will follow work order instructions to assemble and test according to engineering instructions, determine root cause for failures in test as needed, and identify and execute opportunities for operational improvements. This hands-on position requires experience in working with mechanical components, preferably including fluids/pneumatics and hydraulic systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4+ years’ experience of mechanical system development, integration, systems engineering, troubleshooting and/or testing experience
- Experience with mechanical component testing
- Ability to utilize test instrumentation and control components: pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, flow meters, load cells, relays, solenoid valves, power supplies
- Hands-on experience developing and executing work instructions
- Strong written and digital literacy
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a technical field
- Development Lab and Production Lab experience
- Experience with fluids/pneumatics and hydraulic component testing
- Experience with Environmental Testing (proof, leak, vibration, thermal, etc.) per SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540 or MIL-STD-810
- Basic use of CAD
- LabVIEW or PLC experience
- Detailed understanding of fluid components such as valves, regulators, actuators, servo-valves, seals, and fittings
- Familiarity with precision clean hardware and systems
- Experience with flight and safety-critical hardware
- Proficiency configuring and troubleshooting test equipment/setups
- Proficient in using Windchill or similar Data Management System
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $35.52-$49.73Other site ranges may differ
