Job Description

Under general administrative direction of the Director, Safety, Health & Compliance, the Safety & Health Manager will manage the daily administrative and operational activities of the Airport’s Safety and Health section.  They are responsible for managing and enhancing robust safety & health programs including the Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), those required by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)/CalOSHA, and related safety and security elements of the Airport Quality Standards Program among others. The incumbent will assist in managing, overseeing and maintaining the Airport’s Occupational Health & Safety Policies & Procedures, IIPP, and safety and health training for Airport employees. Working closely with internal operating divisions and airport stakeholders, this role will advise, recommend and lead improvements in safety & health policies and processes across the airport. The Safety & Health Manager will interface with City and County government and outside agencies (i.e. OSHA, Cal/OSHA), airlines, airport tenants and represent the airport in meetings involving Injury Illness Prevention and safety & health policies and procedures.

• Coordinate and manage the administrative and operational activities of the Airport’s Safety & Health section.
• Manage, implement, and oversee the Airport’s injury and illness prevention program.
• Develop and maintain occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
• Coordinate, design curriculum, and implement safety and health training for Airport employees.
• Develop and track performance standards and metrics, goals and objectives to improve safety and health at the Airport.
• Ensure that construction project sites follow all construction standards; have the ability to read construction blueprints and critique site plans
• Identify and evaluate safety and health hazards in new and existing structures.
• Keep abreast of changes in regulations and ensure Airport compliance with applicable safety and health regulations.
• Advise management and staff, including the directing of and/or preparation of reports and recommendations and cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with internal/external stakeholders and partners.
• Develop and communicate highly technical data, interpret regulations and prepare complex statistical safety and health reports.
• Manage the Safety & Health budget and forecast expenses for future budgets.
• Supervise the Safety & Health team.
• Perform other related duties as required.
