About the Agency:

The Virginia Department of Military Affairs State Team provides professional and responsive state support functions to the Adjutant General of Virginia, the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Air Guard, and the Virginia Defense Force in order to ensure their ability to support and defend the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This position will be located in Blackstone, VA working on the Fort Barfoot base. Fort Barfoot is a medium-sized federal installation of 41,000 acres, 2,000,000 SF of buildings, and numerous ranges and is operated by the VaARNG for training Reserve Component, active Army, and other unit services. The Directorate of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of real property at the Maneuver Training Center (MTC), Fort Barfoot and State Military Reservation (SMR), Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Purpose of Position:

Provide journeyman-level trades work for the Buildings & Structures Branch to include wood working, structures & finishing, and painting for MTC, Fort Barfoot and other VaARNG facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of carpentry, wood working, wood crafting, blocking & bracing;

Journeyman-level building & structures trades experience;

Knowledge of cement finishing, masonry, & roofing;

Knowledge of painting & insulating;

Knowledge of basic safety and OSHA procedures and regulations;

Ability to read and interpret drawing and technical specifications and apply to the work;

Skill in oral and written communications;

Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;

Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and confined spaces;

Ability to carry, lift, and place into position equipment weighing 50 pounds while wearing protective/safety equipment in all weather conditions;

Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record is required.

Additional Considerations

Relevant Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) Certification/Licensure strongly preferred.
