Job Description

The Technical Supervisor in Organic Certification, operating within a certification body, is responsible for ensuring that all processes and procedures for certifying organic products are conducted in accordance with the standards established by the organization and by national and international regulations. Also play a key role in training and supervising the technical team.

Main activities:
• Supervising the technical team responsible for conducting organic audits and certifications.
• Ensuring strict compliance with all relevant standards and regulations within the certification process.
• Training the technical team on organic certification guidelines and keeping the team updated on any changes to these guidelines.
• Conducting witness audits for the qualification and maintenance of the technical team, including inspection/auditing staff.
• Reviewing, approving, and maintaining records of all audit reports and certification documentation.
• Handling complex and sensitive issues related to organic certification.
• Working closely with clients and stakeholders, providing support throughout the certification process.
• Constantly monitoring the effectiveness of certification processes and making recommendations for improvements when necessary.
• Clarify technical issues with QIMAWQS staff, contractors, and audited organizations.
• Conduct initial and ongoing technical training to maintain the competence of QIMAWQS staff and contractors by ensuring they are trained in the most current version of each standard, including when a new version is released.
• Develop and implement technical interpretations to deliver consistent interpretations for hazards and risk mitigations with respect to agricultural schemes requirements.
• Ensure compliance with QIMAWQS Quality Management rules, certification, and international regulations.
• Support with technical requirements of the certification/accreditation processes to ensure consistency and compliance with relevant internal and external requirements.
• Review records, reports, and other documentation as needed to comply with certification schemes.
• Ensure impartiality and absence of conflicts of interest during certification, auditing, and training activities.
• Work with Sales and Marketing teams regarding technical matters.
• Deliver presentations and training to stakeholders.

• Develop, review internal documentation as needed (procedures, work instructions, forms).
• Perform internal audits if needed.
• Report the performance of certification activities to the immediate supervisor.
• Investigate and conclude appeals, complaints, and recalls.
• Develop standard operations procedures detailing the processes impacted in the technical operation/accreditation of new programs and standards.
• Interface with all departments.
• Approximately 40% travel.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A post-high school diploma or equivalent (minimum 2 years duration) in agriculture or food-related discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in the agricultural industry (experience working in a certification body is desirable). Candidates must also have experience with NOP Organic.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE FOR THIS ROLE:

60,000-75,000 USD according to experience and qualifications
