Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant, Medical Assistant Treatment (MAT)

JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) team. The MA will support clinicians and clients in the provision of integrated care for individuals with substance use disorders. This role involves clinical, administrative, and patient engagement tasks to ensure the smooth delivery of MAT services and promote patient recovery and well-being.

Schedule: The work hours are 8a-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare the consumer for clinic visit. 

  • Proficient in lab ordering and phlebotomy.   

  • Proficient in electronic health record. 

  • Proficient in scheduling MAT appointments. 

  • Attends and participates in mandatory MAT and MHC meetings. 

  • Works collaboratively with care managers, internal providers, external providers, boarding homes, pharmacies, and other outside agencies to provide adequate care. 

  • Maintain consumer records for the smooth implementation of medication orders.  

  • Ongoing evaluation of consumer’s progress.   

  • Obtains releases from PCPs, specialists, other treatments facilities, ER visits, and hospitalizations, as needed for Consumer care.  

  • Complete Prior Authorizations and Attestations for treatment medications.   Interpret and process Provider’s medication orders for the consumer. 

  • Provide education and health promotion and medication management.   Remain flexible and positive to change. 

  • Demonstrate professional demeanor in all settings and situations. 

  • Seeks to improve efficiencies and care, suggesting innovative ways to provide for Consumer’s needs. 

  • Maintain and facilitate communication regarding consumer’s care with all relevant staff. 

  • Follow-up with consumer’s regarding lab results as outlined in company procedures. 

  • Make customer service a priority with internal and external customers. 

  • Establish rapport with consumers. 

  • Systematically gather data necessary in treatment of consumer. 

  • Access and assist with determining the readiness of the individual for treatment and change. 

  • Screen for substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms  Analyze and interpret UDS and pregnancy test results. 

  • Completes Consumer pills counts as outlined by the agency.  

Essential Skills and Experience:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

  • Current MA certification (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA).

  • CPR/BLS certification.

  • Proficiency in EHR systems and basic computer skills.
