Position Specific Description

The Senior Manager, Interconnection Services will participate in regional internal interconnection feasibility studies and network upgrade cost estimate activities through the full life cycle of development and construction of projects leading to the successful execution of new asset growth.


This position is responsible for performing technical analysis to identify cost-effective transmission solutions for projects in our portfolio and to determine optimal locations for new generation projects. The role requires collaboration with internal project developers/originators and external entities, including Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO), Independent System Operators (ISO), Transmission Providers (TP), and Transmission Owners (TO) to review and evaluate interconnection standards, system impact studies, and facility studies to ensure favorable outcomes for NEER’s Development by verifying or challenging interconnection study results and negotiating to reach reasonable resolutions with Transmission Providers.
Candidates with generator interconnection experience in the CAISO/WECC markets are preferred.
 

Key Skills and Experience:
•    A power systems background with a thorough understanding of transmission planning and NERC reliability standards
•    Experience with steady-state thermal/voltage, short-circuit, transient stability using industry analytical tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PowerGEM TARA, TSAT, and ASPEN
•    Strong understanding of the planning processes within RTOs/ISOs and Transmission Providers, especially relating to baseline reliability planning and generator interconnection studies
•    Ability to select optimal locations for renewable energy projects
•    Ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external SMEs to complete comprehensive transmission analyses within short timeframes
•    Understanding of transmission policy and regulatory issues related to generator interconnection
•    Ability to communicate complex technical information succinctly to external stakeholders and all levels of management
•    Provide solutions for technical transmission issues for development projects and current assets
 

Job Duties & Responsibilities
•    Identify optimal locations for new development projects via power systems analysis
•    Review analyses performed by Transmission Providers for accuracy
•    Complete ad hoc projects, modeling, and analysis
•    Stay up-to-date with regulatory issues related to assigned Transmission Providers
•    Perform other job-related duties as assigned

 

Preferred Qualifications
•    Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
•    ~5-10 years of demonstrated experience and working relationship with CAISO or select utilities in WECC in a role related to generator or load interconnection agreements, utility and ISO interconnection study methodology, criteria, business practices, and transmission planning with focus in grid reliability.

 

Location: Juno Beach, FL Headquarters preferred.
