Background & Purpose of the Role
Personal Care North America is entering a defining moment. As social-first demand generation accelerates and earned influence becomes a core growth lever, we are building the next generation of Public Relations and Brand Communications capability across our portfolio.
We are seeking a Senior Manager to serve as the Public Relations capability lead for Personal Care North America (United States and Canada). This role will elevate PR across multiple brands (excluding Dove), unify our PR specialists into a high-performing community, help elevate Unilever U.S. as a leader in the beauty & grooming industry and modernize how earned media, influencers, and cultural storytelling drive business growth.
Beyond capability building, this leader will act as the guardian of brand reputation and narrative, guiding brand teams through cultural moments, country-level challenges, and issues management. This role sits at the intersection of Marketing, Legal, Corporate Affairs, Social, and Media, ensuring consistency across paid, earned, influencer, corporate communications, and crisis response.

What You’ll Do
Lead PR Capability for Personal Care North America
• Establish and elevate Public Relations standards, tools, and processes across Personal Care brands (excluding Dove, but working closely with all brands for consistency).
• Build and lead a cross-brand PR community, creating shared best practices, learning forums, and capability acceleration.
• Modernize PR for the social-first era - integrating earned media, influencers, creators, and cultural relevance into growth plans.
• Introduce new tools, measurement frameworks, and agile ways of working to match today’s dynamic marketing landscape.
Serve as Brand Communications & Brand Risk Lead
• Act as the reputation steward across Personal Care brands.
• Guide brand teams through cultural sensitivities, regulatory considerations, and country-level issues. Be proactive in assessment of potential risks working as a thought partner to brand teams.
• Lead issues management and crisis coordination, including alignment of messaging across marketing, corporate communications, legal, and external affairs.
• Provide clear guardrails for paid, earned, influencer, and corporate messaging to protect brand equity.
Drive Strategic & Executional Excellence
• Partner with brand teams to develop high-impact, culturally relevant public relations programs aligned to business priorities.
• Have oversight for our cross-brand earned strategy and execution, including high impact sports partnership programming (e.g. sports partnerships) and our cross-brand beauty execution elevating our brands in the industry (CEW, PCPC, events, etc.)
• Oversee agency strategy and performance, ensuring innovation, measurable impact, and disciplined execution.
• Review and approve press materials, messaging frameworks, budgets, and campaign plans.
• Support executive and internal communications moments that elevate Personal Care leadership and culture.
• Partner closely with paid media counterparts and personal care hub team to optimize campaigns and maximize the power of paid and earned media.
• Coordinate PC brand participation in cross brand activities and events.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
• 8+ years of experience in Public Relations or Brand Communications (agency or in-house).
• Demonstrated experience leading multi-brand or portfolio-level communications.
• Strong issues management and crisis communications experience.
• Deep understanding of social-first marketing, influencer ecosystems, and earned media amplification.
• Experience building capability frameworks, communities of practice, or cross-functional alignment models.
• Exceptional judgment under ambiguity and strong executive presence.
• Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
Pay: The pay range for this position is $119,400 to $179,000. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
