General Cleaner/Custodian (Part-time)

About the Role

We are seeking a  General Cleaner/Custodian (Part-time) to perform janitorial services at the IRS New Carrollton Facility. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning, window washing, trash removal, recycling, landscaping, and maintaining buildings or areas.

Responsibilities

• Regularly clean surfaces using cleaning products compatible with the surfaces cleaned and that comply with the established green cleaning plan.
• Perform additional regular cleaning and disinfection as requested.
• Be able to spot clean carpet with buffer machine in a safe manner as tenants are available.
• Use an extraction machine to perform duties such as recover liquid/solid substances.
• Perform detailed cleaning and disinfection whenever a COVID-19 incident occurs.
• Provide building interior and Child Care Center custodial services, including but not limited to cleaning floors, carpets, and rugs; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, shower rooms, and locker rooms; cleaning and dusting fixtures, surfaces, blinds, and walls; washing windows; collecting, removing, and transporting trash, solid waste and recyclables to designated locations; perform pest control; etc.
• Use Rubbermaid dumpster to take out trash from freight elevators/recyclables.
• Use Rubbermaid dumpster to take out trash from cubicles, as it may exceed 100 lbs.
• Retrieve dead rodents from cubicles.
• Vacuum entire stairwell from the penthouse to service level.
• Provide exterior custodial services, including but not limited to, landscaping, parking lots and grounds maintenance; snow and ice removal; etc.
• Use leaf blower in underground garage/outside facility.
• Wash windows in PL every day.
• Retrieve dead birds located in the roof.
• Able to retrieve trash from security booths at any temperature.
• Retrieve trash around entire facility such as garages, fence lines, boundary line, gates, bus stops, water fountain.
• Service lobbies and high public use areas.
• Sweep, clean, mop the elevator by metro, stairwell, escalator, walkway.
• Service complaints and perform special cleaning required by building occupants vacating specific building areas; alterations performed at the building; special conferences; cleanup work made necessary by toilet floods and similar occurrences.
• Assist in loading, unloading and distribution of office supplies.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

• Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from customers and others.
• Ability to safely utilize a wide array of cleaning equipment and custodial chemicals, general cleaning chemicals, and/or supplies.
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
• Ability to safely operate custodial equipment (vacuum, backpack vacuum, cardboard bailer).
• Human relations skills to build effective working relationships.
• Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and common-sense skills.
• Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
• Abide by the Federal Drug-Free workplace policy.
• Must be able to pass background check requirements as set by clients.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record may be required.
• Ability to obtain a government clearance.
• Must be able to work independently to complete work tasks.

Education and Training

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
