About the role

What's the role?

In Finland, HERE Technologies is a company like no other. We are a global technology company focused on mapping with a strong presence in Europe, the US, and India. We are 6000+ employees with offices in 60 countries.

Our Tampere site is a 60+ person strong R&D site, where we work with three product areas: HERE EV Charge Points, HERE Positioning and HERE Tracking. Our people have competencies from DevOps to full-stack software development, from product ownership to people management, and from machine vision to hardcore mathematics. You fit in easily with our international site, and you have career opportunities that are rarely offered by Finnish companies. You get to work with cutting-edge HERE products that we build for large market needs, not just for one customer. We co-develop products with global lead customers and then scale them up for prime time.

HERE EV Charge Points is a product family used to deliver static and dynamic data on EV charging stations to our customers via APIs and customer-facing applications like HERE Navigation. Data quality is of the highest importance, so we are building processes and algorithms to ensure EV drivers only receive fresh and accurate EV charge point data.  You will have the satisfaction of knowing you are positively impacting the driving experience for millions of EV drivers through your work and thereby supporting the transition to sustainable mobility. Our customers include many of the top automotive companies in the world. You can find out more about HERE EV products on https://www.here.com/solutions/ev-routing-charging-optimization.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our EV Charge Points team. You will become part of a highly experienced group of software developers, test automation specialists, DevOps engineers, and data engineers. Our team is based in Tampere, Finland, and includes a strong mix of professionals who are enthusiastic about mentoring and supporting new joiners. The team’s working language is English. We collaborate closely with external partners and internal teams across HERE’s global network to ensure our customers consistently receive the best in technology and innovation.

In this role, you will be:

  • Designing and building scalable backend and frontend components powering EV charging solutions used globally.
  • Contributing code to the HERE EV Charge Points API and EV charge point data processing systems and tools.
  • Support running the components in production with a high SLA.
  • Working in a team of software development experts, collaborating on the development and participating in planning and design meetings.
  • Diagnosing data quality and system integrations, providing feedback to our partners, and suggesting technical improvements to our systems to improve data quality and operations.
  • Reviewing and testing the code written by the team.
  • Participate in reviewing and creating system architecture designs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across different teams to ensure the EV data is aligned across all HERE products.

Tech Stack: Typescript, Node.js, AWS, Kubernetes, Grafana, Splunk, and Gitlab.

Who are you?

  • BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or in some other related field.
  • 3-5 years of working experience as a software developer.
  • Experience writing and maintaining code for large systems. Our main stack is TypeScript running on Node.js
  • You understand the importance of producing high-quality, readable code that is ready for production deployment.
  • Experience working with Git, trunk-based development, code reviews, and Continuous Integration tools such as GitLab.
  • Experience in writing automated tests from unit testing to end-to-end testing purposes.
  • You not only write high-quality code but also design what you plan to do and document what you have done.
  • You know how to work in an agile software development environment as a part of the Scrum team.
  • You take responsibility for reviewing and testing code that others have written.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • We expect you to be curious and interested in learning the technologies we use and the EV domain.

Would be a plus

  • Languages we use in addition to TypeScript: Java, Scala, and Python.
  • DevOps platforms/tools like Linux, AWS, Kubernetes, Grafana, and Splunk.
  • AI coding assistants, such as GitHub Copilot.
