Summary

Shift information: 5% additional pay for evening shift work; 7.5% additional pay for night shift work. Applicants must be able and willing to work any shift of a 24-hour period and any 5 of 7 days.

Examination Schedule:
  • Oral Exam: Qualified candidates will be notified of the testing date five (5) days prior to the examination.

Examination:
Oral Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position.

The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral examination.

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards:
  • Two years of experience as an Emergency Medical Services Coordinator for the County of Kern.
OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Administration, Public Administration or related field and four (4) years of experience in the pre-hospital emergency medical care field.
  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • Possession of a valid paramedic license issued by the California EMS Authority is required.
Must obtain current Kern County paramedic accreditation prior to completion of the probationary period.
