Job Summary:

The Managing Engineer will lead a team responsible for database platform with primary focus on Oracle Databases. The individual in this role collaborates with engineers for both platform and application, Digital Product Managers, and the Lead Engineer to deliver high-performing highly available databases in an Agile setting. 

 

The Managing Engineer architects and designs their databases, technologies, monitoring and alerting, and This leader will own and manage running their databases in production, and ultimately become accountable for the success of their digital products through achieving KPIs.  The Managing Database Engineer plans, directs, designs, and executes IT-related activities and programs that are of a complex and critical nature.  
 

This adept leader energizes and empowers medium to large teams, fostering peak performance. They offer insightful guidance and counsel, steering direct reports through challenges, risks, and priorities with finesse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the effort of shaping the architecture and design of the Database Platform.
  • Develop, support, and lead a team of 5-7 engineers.
  • Participate in product scoping, discovery and framing, and inceptions providing technical input and helps translate user features into system design.
  • Lead and participate in weekly planning meetings, managing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the digital product manager.
  • Lead and participate in daily ceremonies including product team standups.
  • Lead and participate in contract renewals with our partners.
  • Serve as an expert on multiple business domains and a distinguished advocate of multiple technology stacks. Share that knowledge across organizations.
  • Coach and develop a high-performing team, empowering engineers, and driving impactful outcomes.
  • Serve as the anchor of the team and practice technical leadership. Guide the team in choosing the right technology, solving technical problems, and resolving any technical conflicts within the team.
  • Establish continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and technical best practices within the team.
  • Lead and participate in knowledge sharing and contribute to the overall growth of the collective knowledge of the Engineering community.
  • Evaluate engineer skillsets, set development plans, and strengthen technical and product knowledge within the team.
  • Weekly On Call 24x7 rotation, once every 4 weeks. 
     

Functional Skills:

  • Hands on experience with Oracle Database, architecture and designing, implementing, and delivering large scale distributed systems.
  • Experience and knowledge with Linux Operating System preferably RedHat
  • Experience in Oracle RAC including PDB/CDB
  • Experience working in an agile work environment across organizational and geographical boundaries

Education and Experience:

• 4 year Bachelors Degree (Preferred)

• 7 or more years of experience (Preferred)

• In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• No Certification, License or Registration is required for the job.
